AFP and Numa have joined forces to create a permanent, open collaborative framework for finding new media solutions.
AFP, which ran a successful photography training project for children in Rio’s city of god in the run-up to the World Cup, is partnering with a new photography school in the favela. The School, which will be free of charge to students, will be inaugurated on November 20.

Agence France-Presse (AFP) and Québec’s Laval University today signed a partnership agreement under which AFP pledged to host trainee journalists at bureaux within its international network and contribute to the University’s journalism courses.

The aim is to explore the possibility of producing sports news with technology which uses a data base and algorithms.
Two contrasting photo exhibitions by AFP will be featured in the International Photojournalism festival Visa pour l’Image which runs from August 30 to September 14 2014 in Perpignan, France. One showcases AFP’s prize-winning coverage of Typhoon Haiyan which struck the Philippines in November 2013, and the other features images taken by children in a Rio favela on the eve of the FIFA World Cup.
